Child Care Resource Service

The television is often on in day care homes when representatives of the Child Care Resource Service visit. "The kids are talking about it," said Judy Hartley, director of the service. "So we know the day care providers are using television when caring for children."

To help day care providers learn how to use television as a teaching tool, the service asks WILL educational outreach coordinator Molly Delaney to conduct 7-10 workshops a year in the six-county region of central Illinois that the CCRS serves.

"We absolutely believe in quality child care, so it's important that providers receive the best materials and training," said Judy. "Molly does an exceptional job."

At the workshops, which help child care providers fulfill state requirements to keep their licenses, they learn about using books and activities to continue the children's learning after an educational program is turned off.

"People really like the workshops because of the interactive nature of the delivery," Judy said. "It's an eye-opener for some of them. Some of them haven't given any thought to how they can use educational television programming."

The CCRS assists both the community of providers in the child care industry and parents seeking information and referrals about child care.
